Game 1 of Antioch Invitational Tournament

The Lady Dons opened the Antioch Tournament with a 64 to 27 victory over Benicia. The girls seized control early in the game and raced out to a halftime cushion of 26 points. Solid man-to-man defense and sharp shooting was behind the first half success. From there the girls cruised the rest of the way for a comfortable 37 point victory. Lauren Kobashigawa and Lauren Frechman led the way each scoring 20 points. Meanwhile, Kaylee Pond had a solid all around game with several key steals, assists and a double digit rebounding effort from her point forward spot. The Lady Dons advance to round 2 Friday night at Antioch High School versus Middletown.

Game 2 Antioch Invitational Tournament

The Lady Dons topped Middletown 50 to 17 in the 2nd round of the Antioch Invitational. It was the girls best defensive outing to date, as they only gave up 2 points the entire second half. Lauren Kobashigawa was the high scorer with 19 points, while Lauren Frechman added 10 and Gabi Schneider and Kaylee Pond each scored 8. It’s now on to the championship of the tournament Saturday versus Rancho Cotate.

Championship Game

The Lady Dons won the Antioch Invitational beating Rancho Cotate 72 to 56. The girls started fast with their highest scoring quarter of the season to lead 27 to 14 at the end of the 1st quarter. From there the girls built a 20 point lead in the 2nd quarter, but Rancho Cotate was resilient and played hard until the end. Kaylee Pond had an incredible all around game leading the Dons in rebounds, assists and steals. It was a balanced scoring effort with Gabby Schneider the high scorer with 16, Kaylee Pond finished with 14, Lauren Kobashigawa tallied 13 and Lauren Frechman had 12. A special congratulations to Kaylee Pond for being selected Tournament MVP and Lauren Kobashigawa for making the all tournament team. This was a great 3 game showing for the young Dons and Coach Saki.
