Oct 9 – Acalanes Girls JV Tennis

All of our JV girls tennis lines played exceptionally well together this afternoon to sweep Las Lomas 9-0. We played a number of new doubles combinations as well as some of our more set pairs today against Las Lomas. A new combination of Julia Lauer and Claire Pockell-Wilson set the tone at D-1 with an 8-3 win. Julia and Claire got off to a slow start at 2-3 but made some fine adjustments and picked up their games to coast home. Another new combo of Cameron Morton and Philippine Chauvet played really well together at D-8 Cameron played her very steady game and Philippine contributed a number of fine volleys to secure an 8-2 win. Melanie Tymm, who was moved up at the last minute teamed with Hannah Snyder at D-4 for a convincing 8-1 victory. Sally Tang and Alex Awwad, playing together for the first time at D-7, came home winners 8-2

Our more set teams of Allie Figueredo / Sam Bell, Claire Terentieff / Sami Browne, Kelianne Witt / Maddie Guzaitis, and Lia Swan / Olivia Olson all won convincingly.

In our only exhibition match of the day Maggie Curless and Jess Gerson made a great effort at D-10 against a team comprised of a D-2 and D-3 player from Las Lomas, who doubled back to play a second set. Magggie and Jess fought back from 2-6 to 5-8 to make it a close contest.

Finally, I was really pleased to be told by one of the Las Lomas parents that he and his daughter thought Acalanes is the finest team that they have played this year. The Las Lomas dad noted that the Acalanes girls were respectful of our opponents, pleasant to play against and made very fine line calls. The JV Lady Dons should be proud of how you are representing Acalanes High School.
