The Freshman Girls Volleyball team continued its winning streak, defeating Concord in two sets 25-13, 25-12. The Lady Minutemen may have won the first point in the first set, but that was the last time they took the lead. Early service runs by Sarah Moore, Ying Stroebe and Taylor Odom, quickly brought the score to 12-5. Kills from Moore and Odom off assists by Holly Fleischmann quickly moved the game forward. Middle Blockers Katie McCarty and Janine Jaber added the power to the front line, allowing nothing to pass. Defense, led by Stroebe and backed by Claire Amaral and Dana Piercy kept the line tight. At 24-13, Fleischmann finessed a clever tip over the top of Concord’s blockers to end the set.
Game two again saw the early service runs, quickly moving the score to 12-4. The pace slowed a bit with both teams trading points but Concord never got close. Jillian Wickline and Odom powered key kill shots to stop the Minutemen in their tracks. Service aces from Fleischmann, Moore, Odom and Holly Gillar stepped up the pace. Artfully placed tips from McCarty kept their opponents on their toes. A strong back row with Stroebe, Amaral and Lily Bauer denied any extra points for their opponents. A final kill from Odom ended the set 25-12. The Lady Dons take on Miramonte on Thursday, October 6 at Miramonte.
