In last Friday’s action …

The Acalanes Dons took on Miramonte on Friday, February 9th in what was to decide the DAL Champion. Acalanes entered the game with an 8-1 record and Miramonte came in with a 7-1-1. The Dons faithful came out in force to cheer on their team and to celebrate their 15 seniors. The Dons class of 2018 includes Luke Denham (#1), Oliver Feigin (#3), Cameron Shapoorian (#7), Zach Flagg (#8), Shukoor Haji (#9), Alex Topping (#10), Ryan Karow (#11), David Lacayo (#12), Reider Martinsen (#13), Joshua Galla (#14), Nick Schirmer (#15), Ben Stoddard (#16), Dominic Van Cleave Schottland (#19), Cameron Otterson (#20) and Mason Larrick (#21).

The game was hard fought and saw a great defensive stance by both teams. Miramonte struck first in the closing minutes of the first half to make it 1-0 going into halftime. The second half saw much of the same with both goalies pulling in great saves and keeping the half scoreless. In the final five minutes of the game, the Dons put 6 shots on goal only to come up empty. With 2:20 left in the game, the Mats put the game away with a 2nd goal in the closing minutes.

The 2-0 loss ended the Dons 4 game winning streak and knocked the defending DAL Champions out of first place. The Dons will look to recover as they head into the NCS Tournament as the #3 seed. They will host Albany High on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm at Acalanes.
