Feb 26 – Boys Lacrosse win against Piedmont

The Boys Lacrosse season is well under way. It started out rough, with losses to 2 great teams – St. Ignatius Prep (11-2) and San Ramon Valley High (18-4).

The team has been working hard and took what they learned from their opening losses to pull off a rewarding win in an exciting battle against Piedmont last Friday night. During the 1st quarter, Acalanes scored 2 goals and possessed the ball the majority of the time shutting down Piedmont completely. The tide turned in the second quarter as Piedmont scored 2 goals. The score at halftime was 2-2. Acalanes scored the lone goal of the 3rd quarter. Then Piedmont scored the first goal of the 4th quarter to tie the game again at 3-3 with just a few minutes left on the clock. Fortunately, two Acalanes’ sophomores came up with a winning combination and a goal from Fynn Chorak was set up by a great pass from Jake Landry. Final score Acalanes 4, Piedmont 3.

Outstanding defense was played Friday night as evidenced by such a low scoring game! Glenn Johnston led the charge forcing Piedmont to turn over the ball 5 times, Brian Maiken forced 3 turnovers, Joey Gladden forced 2 turnovers and Josh Baginski 1. Michael Bone and Colin Jeffries dominated the ground ball recovery with 3 each. Goalie Nate Welcomer played a terrific game with 11 saves.

Fynn Chorak scored 2 goals, Grant Jackson scored 2 unassisted goals, Michael Bone and Jake Landry had 1 assist each.

The next Boys’ Lacrosse game will be at Marin Catholic on Tuesday, March 1st.
