Dec 5 – Soccer Dons Beat the Cougars
After Acalanes beat Campolindo in the Winter Classic Final, just last Saturday, this re-match was sure to be played enthusiastically, to say the very least. The first 10 minutes saw Campo attack the Acalanes goal with tremendous pressure, though typical of the Acalanes defense this season, they held up very well and once their midfield started to pass the ball around the game became even as play swayed between both team’s goal areas with some fine
soccer played by both teams.
Just two minutes into the second half Acalanes scored. From senior, Ben Croze’s corner kick the ball found it’s way to junior Max Mirner, who buried the ball into the back of the net with a fine shot. Just 2 minutes later Croze found, senior Danny Glascock, with a cross field pass, Glascock carried the ball ten yards before unleashing a powerful
low shot for a second goal. Acalanes were really playing well now. In the 58th minute, senior Graham Lundgren won the ball in his own half then took off down the park before dishing off to junior Mark Helfrich, who’s powerful shot was parried wide by Campo’s goalie to a thankful Croze, who scored off a tap in. The final goal was true class. Helfrich charged down the left wing before unleashing a thunderous shot from 28 yards, the ball settled just
under the crossbar leaving Campo’s goalie no chance, 4, 0 Acalanes.
While Acalanes scored beautiful goals tonight it must be said their defense are playing very well. Anchored by all seniors, Nick Warren and Graham Lindgren in the middle with Malaak Hamzeh and Patrick Lundgren out wide. This defense has allowed just 1 goal in their first 5 games. With such a strong defense we’ll likely have much to look forward to as the season progresses.
Final Score Acalanes 4, Camplindo 0.
