December 14 – the Dons demonstrated a pleasant “brand” of soccer while convincingly beating Dougherty Valley. In probably what was their best game of the season so far, Acalanes opened the score after 18′ with an accurate shot from senior Austen Grassini on an assist by junior Dan Glascock. Half-time score 1-0.
The second half started rapidly, the Dons finding the net three times in 15′ minutes, senior Austin DeBack scoring the second (44′) and third (56′) goals on two wonderful shots with his left foot, after no less brilliant assists from Grassini & Glascock. Three minutes later, Glascock, already credited of two assists, was at the end this time to score the last goal of the game (sophomore Max Mirner assist). Final score: 4-0.
December 16 – Acalanes had an always difficult trip to Alhambra HS and won a hard-fought battle 2-1. The Dons took the lead immediately (7′) with Glascock taking advantage of a poor clearing from the Alhambra defenders to find the net. Same scenario after the break with Glascock again adding the second goal quickly (45′) on an assist from senior Aidan Maguire. Down two goals, Alhambra stepped up the intensity, playing with more determination and were able to reduce the score. But that would not be enough to beat the Dons’ defense, very impressive again.
Undefeated with a 5-0-3 (3-0-1, DFAL) record, the Dons earned a well deserved Winter break and are now off until January 2nd when they will host College Park @ home (6:15pm) in a nonleague game. See you there… Go Dons!
