Dec 1 – Boys Soccer Winter Classic Tournament Final

Acalanes 2, Campolindo 0
On Saturday evening at Pleasanton’s Foothill HS, Acalanes boys varsity soccer team beat Campolindo to win the preseason Winter Classic with a record of 4-0. For their part Campolindo had 15 fouls to Acalanes’ 7 and 3 yellow cards to Acalanes’ 2.  This final had a definite ring to it as Acalanes set about playing soccer while Campo chose to foul a bit too much. At no time though did the game get out of control and all players did their respective school proud.  The game started evenly and tensely as finals can be, both teams possessed the ball well early and played with passion and commitment.  Acalanes first goal came in just the 8th minute, senior, Ben Croze, picked up the ball near the half way line, after dribbling past a couple Campolindo defenders he worked a give and go with senior, Dan Glascock, after which Croze found himself at the right side edge of Campo’s goal area where he unleashed a perfectly accurate shot to the far post beating the outstretched arms of Campolindo’s goalie for a wonderful virtuoso strike.  At 38 minutes, junior, Max Mirner, pounced onto a loose ball and shot into a crowded goal area to find the back of the net.
2-0 Acalanes at the half.
In the second half no goals were scored but both teams created chances and both team’s goalie’s
rose to the occasion making critical saves.  A notable mention to the Acalanes back four who tackled
and cleared everything Campolindo threw at them.  In their 4 tournament games Acalanes scored
9 goals and conceded just 1.  With that record and preseason tournament title to their credit,
they go into their first league game next week with their heads held high.  Though they might be
advised to keep their eyes firmly on their first league opponent, Campolindo!
Next up, Acalanes home to Campolindo, Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 6:15 PM, see you there!

Halftime, 2-0. Scoring: Croze (un-assisted) 8:00, Mirner (un-assisted) 38:00
