Mar 4 – Boys Wrestling State Championship

Jeremy Ridge finished in the top 12 at the California State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield this weekend. Jeremy is the first Acalanes wresters to ever win a match at the state Championships. During the tournament he defeated the state’s 12, 13, 16, and 24th wrestlers and lost in sudden overtime victory to the 8th and 9th wrestlers. He was also honored as one of the winners of the CIF Sportsmanship “Pursuing Victory with Honor” Award. The athletes receiving the award are observed during the tournament and are judged on trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Jeremy was awarded a medal and his name is added to the winners of the award in the California State Wrestling Championship permanent record. He finished the season with a record of 51-9.

Wrestling

Jeremy Ridge won 3 of his 4 matches at the CIF State Wrestling Championships to advance to the second day of competition.

Girls Lacrosse

recorded a shutout over Clayton Valley Charter HS 18-0.  The jv team also won convincingly.

Boys Lacrosse

defeated Clayton Valley Charter HS 12-5.

In Saturday’s action…

Boys Soccer

battled to a 0-0 tie with Montgomery HS through regulation and the first overtime in the NCS Championship game.  With seconds left in the second overtime they pushed across the winning goal and they are the NCS Champions.

Wrestling

continues to enjoy success at the NCS Championships as Jeremy Ridge placed 3rd and qualified for the CIF State Championships.  Tai White placed 5th and Axel Jurgens placed 7th.

Baseball

was defeated by Monte Vista HS at 1:00.

has a match at San Ramon Valley HS at 3:30.

Boys Golf

has a match against Alhambra HS at Franklin Canyon GC at 3:00.

Feb 24 – Wrestling NCS Championship

The wrestling team competed at the North Coast Championships this weekend at James Logan High School. The team had the best NCS tournament in it’s history. Acalanes finished with three medalists, the most ever, and the second State Qualifier in the wrestling teams history.

All four Acalanes Wrestlers made day two of the tournament. Ben Ross went 3-2 at 140. Axel Jurgens placed 7th at 162, Tai White placed 5th at 134, and Jeremy Ridge placed 3rd at 147 and qualified for the State tournament. Jeremy will represent Acalanes next weekend in Bakersfield.

Wrestling is different from the other sports. There is only one division in NCS and CIF that all 900 schools participate in. The California state tournament is recognized as the toughest in America and represents the best wrestlers in California all competing for 14 state championships, 1 champion in each of the 14 weight classes.

Girls Basketball

The #3 seeded girls basketball team pulled out a thrilling 69-67 victory over Redwood HS in the NCS quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals at Montgomery HS Wednesday at 8:00.

Boys Basketball

rallied only to fall short against Moreau HS in the NCS quarterfinals.

Wrestling

Jeremy Ridge, Tai White and Axel Jurgens won their first two matches to advance to the quarterfinals in the NCS Championships.

Boys Soccer

competed in an epic battle with Campolindo HS and prevailed 1-0 in the NCS quarterfinals.  They advance to the semifinals hosting Richmond HS Wednesday at 7:00.

Goalkeeper Luke Denham made countless incredible saves to be named “Man of the Match.”  Gabe Singer scored the lone goal and stellar team defense secured the edge-of-your-seat victory.

Wrestling

Tai White, Jeremy Ridge and Axel Jurgens won DAL titles and Ben Ross place 3rd at the DAL Championships.  All four qualify for the NCS Championships Friday and Saturday at James Logan HS.
