Dec 3 – Two hard-fought ties to end the Winter Soccer Classic!

After two easy wins earlier in the week, the Acalanes Dons Soccer Team ended this year’s tournament with two ties, first on Thursday vs Antioch (1-1), then again on Saturday vs Albany (2-2). In the first game, Acalanes dominated, had a lot of chances to score but couldn’t beat an excellent goalkeeper in the visiting ranks. The deliverance finally came in the 59 minutes with a well-taken penalty kick from sophomore Max Mirner. Unfortunately, that advantage was short-lived and 3 minutes later, Antioch was also awarded a penalty kick and tied the game. The score would not change.

Acalanes Boys Soccer – Goals galore and clean sheet to start the season!

6-0, 4-0. The Dons were on fire for their first two games of the 2011-2012 soccer season.

Hosting JFK-Richmond on Monday for the opening of the Winter Classic Tournament, it took them only one minute to find the back of the net with junior Dan Glascock at the reception of fellow junior Graham Lindgren’s cross. From the start, the Acalanes men put a lot of pressure on their opponent and quickly added a second goal (8′) by senior Austin DeBack, winner of his 1v1 with the JFK goalkeeper after a nice long feed from sophomore Max Mirner. Four minutes later, Mirner was at the end of senior Aidan Maguire pass to score the 3rd goal. A brilliant shot by Maguire ten minutes later would bring the score to 4-0 (score at the half). The second period was very similar, with the Dons dominating from the go, allowing DeBack to score his second of the game with another assist by Maguire. Two minutes before the end, senior Sina Bagheri added the sixth goal, showing a lot of determination on a nice pass from junior Ben Croze.

The Dons qualify for the NCS Final with a lot of class!
In probably their most accomplished game (defensively & offensively) of the season, the Dons defeated defending NCS champion Dublin 2-0 on Wednesday in the semi-finals to qualify for another championship game. Acalanes dominated the entire game, with excellent combinations upfront and the usual defensive rigor in the back. In a period of intense pressure from the hosts, senior & co-captain Nick Pereira scored an opportunist goal after 28′ in the first half. After the break, the Dons continued playing with a strong intensity and were finally rewarded with a beautiful second goal from junior David Dadiomov, assisted by junior & co-captain Dylan Autran. Contra Costa Times Athlete of the week, junior GK Jackson Foote was never really threatened but made a couple of courageous saves to keep a clean sheet. Acalanes will play another familiar opponent – Campolindo – in the NCS Final at Las Lomas on Saturday (5pm). Acalanes Sports fans, come and support the Dons for the “Big Game”! Go Dons!
