The Dons qualify for the NCS Final with a lot of class!
In probably their most accomplished game (defensively & offensively) of the season, the Dons defeated defending NCS champion Dublin 2-0 on Wednesday in the semi-finals to qualify for another championship game. Acalanes dominated the entire game, with excellent combinations upfront and the usual defensive rigor in the back. In a period of intense pressure from the hosts, senior & co-captain Nick Pereira scored an opportunist goal after 28′ in the first half. After the break, the Dons continued playing with a strong intensity and were finally rewarded with a beautiful second goal from junior David Dadiomov, assisted by junior & co-captain Dylan Autran. Contra Costa Times Athlete of the week, junior GK Jackson Foote was never really threatened but made a couple of courageous saves to keep a clean sheet. Acalanes will play another familiar opponent – Campolindo – in the NCS Final at Las Lomas on Saturday (5pm). Acalanes Sports fans, come and support the Dons for the “Big Game”! Go Dons!

February 20th

For the 3rd year in a row, the Dons make the NCS Final Four!
Facing seed #10 Pinole Valley – surprising 2nd in their league (ACCAL) between D1 powers Berkeley and Richmond – Acalanes, seeded #2, knew that it would not be an easy game. With their status of outsiders, the Spartans didn’t have anything to lose and were expected to give everything to the end. If the first half was intense, with a few clear chances on both sides; neither team could find the opening. The answer came 5 minutes after the break for the Dons with a low shot from the eighteen by junior & co-captain Dylan Autran, following an intense pressure on the opposing defense. In the last 35 minutes of the game, the Dons tried but were unable to score a second goal but the defensive effort of the entire team did the rest. The Dons will now play a familiar opponent (and defending NCS champion) – Dublin – in the semifinals this Wednesday (7pm) at home.
Go Dons!

A 1-0 win for a place in the NCS Quarter Finals!
In a intense first round game of NCS vs Kennedy-Richmond, the Dons won by the minimum with the lone goal scored by sophomore Dan Glascock at the half-hour mark. Acalanes had numerous opportunities to add a second goal but couldn’t find the net… At the other end, junior GK Jackson Foote was again on top of his game, making a couple of amazing saves to keep his team up.
The Dons now play their Quarter Final this Saturday, Feb 19,2011 (7pm) at home vs Pinole Valley, winner of  Dougherty Valley in the 1st round.
Go Dons!

February 14th – Boys Soccer

FEB 7 – FEB 12, 2011
Another DFAL title for the Dons, tied at the top with Campo!
With a 8-1-3 record, the Dons are the Diablo Foothills Athletic League champions, a title they will share this year with Campo. This past week was a very special one for the 8 seniors in the team (Nick Bischoff, Cam Carda, Adrian Chow-Danel, Steve Glascock, David Helfrich, Sean McArthur, Max Omick and captain Nick Pereira) who were honored – as well as their parents – on Wednesday and played their last league game on Friday at Las Lomas (2-2). In this important game, Acalanes led 1-0 at the half (goal from Carda, at the reception of a nice free-kick from junior and captain Dylan Autran), then were caught by surprise in the first minute of the second half (1-1), took the lead again on a penalty kick by Autran (2-1) and finally conceded a second goal at the last minute of the game. The Dons will now focus on the NCS playoffs, where they are seeded #2 (Campo is #1) and will host Kennedy Richmond on Wednesday at 7pm. Go Dons!

Acalanes Boys Soccer Week of Jan 30 – Feb 5,2011
One more week in the DFAL!
With a win at Dougherty Valley (1-0, goal from sophomore Graham Lindgren, assist from senior Cam Carda) and a tie at home vs Dublin (1-1, goal from junior Austen Grassini), the Dons (8-1-2) have now 26 points, two in front of Campolindo in the DFAL standings, with one game to play. The title will be decided this week after Wednesday game between Campo & Las Lomas, and Friday game between Acalanes & Las Lomas. In the meantimes, the Dons (14-3-4 overall) travel to D1 power, Livermore, on Monday (Feb. 7th, 6pm) for their last nonleague game of the season & celebrate “Senior Night” on Wednesday (Feb. 9th, 6pm). Go Dons!

Boys soccer – January 29th

Back on top!
This past week, the Dons did what not other team had done, defeating Campolindo in the “Big Game” (first loss of the season for the Cougars after 16 undefeated games). The only goal of the game came just after half-time on a long run and top notch finish from senior & captain Nick Pereira, following a long and precise pass from junior & co-captain Dylan Autran. Two days later, the celebrations were over and Acalanes was traveling to Martinez to face an always challenging Alhambra team. Focused, the Dons took care of the game early, with 3 goals in the first half by junior Austen Grassini (assist from senior Cam Carda), sophomore Dan Glascock (senior David Helfrich) and Autran (senior Max Omick). With 3 games to go, the Dons (13-3-3, 7-1-1) are now back on top of the DFAL, two points in front of Campolindo (6-1-2). The end of the season is going to be exciting between these two excellent teams!
To end a busy week, Acalanes had also a nonleague game at Northgate and came back from Walnut Creek with a 1-1 tie (junior Austin deBack goal and D. Helfrich assist). Throughout the week, the entire defense, once again, was impressive in front of junior GK Jackson Foote at the top of his game. This week, two – very important – league games at Dougherty Valley on Wednesday (6pm) & at home versus Dublin on Friday (6pm). Go Dons!
