ACALANES BOYS SOCCER JAN 24,2011 – JAN 29,2011
Back on top!
This past week, the Dons did what not other team had done, defeating Campolindo in the “Big Game” (first loss of the season for the Cougars after 16 undefeated games). The only goal of the game came just after half-time on a long run and top notch finish from senior & captain Nick Pereira, following a long and precise pass from junior & co-captain Dylan Autran. Two days later, the celebrations were over and Acalanes was traveling to Martinez to face an always challenging Alhambra team. Focused, the Dons took care of the game early, with 3 goals in the first half by junior Austen Grassini (assist from senior Cam Carda), sophomore Dan Glascock (senior David Helfrich) and Autran (senior Max Omick). With 3 games to go, the Dons (13-3-3, 7-1-1) are now back on top of the DFAL, two points in front of Campolindo (6-1-2). The end of the season is going to be exciting between these two excellent teams!
To end a busy week, Acalanes had also a nonleague game at Northgate and came back from Walnut Creek with a 1-1 tie (junior Austin deBack goal and D. Helfrich assist). Throughout the week, the entire defense, once again, was impressive in front of junior GK Jackson Foote at the top of his game. This week, two – very important – league games at Dougherty Valley on Wednesday (6pm) & at home versus Dublin on Friday (6pm). Go Dons!
