Feb 24 – Girls Basketball Advances to NCS Semi-Final Round

The Lady Dons won a thriller in the second round of NCS playoffs Friday night 69 to 67 over Redwood.  It was a game of many momentum swings throughout.  The Dons raced out to an 8 point lead after one quarter.  The lead didn’t last long, as the resilient Redwood squad fought back and closed the gap to 1 point at halftime.  Momentum changed again in the 3rd quarter with Emma Godfrey asserting herself in the paint and an aggressive full court press being unleashed.

The Lady Dons established a 10 point lead late in the 3rd, however, the tables turned again when Emma Godfrey picked up her 4th foul and then a technical which disqualified her for the rest of the game.  Redwood wasted no time storming back and built a lead as large as 6 points in the 4th quarter.  Finally, Roni Marrone and Brooke Panfili took over the game late in the 4th quarter and willed their way to victory.  Brooke Panfili was the high scorer on the night with 21 points, while Emma Godfrey added 18, Roni Marrone dropped 15 points, and Lauren Kobashigawa contributed 11 points.  The Lady Dons move on to play Montgomery Wednesday night in Santa Rosa.

The Lady Dons posted a 64 to 52 victory in round 1 of the NCS Division 2 playoffs Tuesday night over Rancho Cotate.  After a back and forth first half of play the Dons had a small halftime lead.  Both teams largely spent the first half feeling each other out.  Finally, the Dons began to assert themselves in the 3rd quarter behind the point guard leadership of Brooke Panfili, inside the paint domination of Emma Godfrey, and all around outstanding play of Roni Marrone.  The lead grew to double digits early in the 4th quarter and the girls didn’t look back the rest of the way.  Brooke Panfili made multiple key shots in the second half on her way to a game high 21 points.  Meanwhile, Emma Godfrey scored 18 points and Roni Marrone added 15 points.  The ladies are back in action Friday night at home for round 2 of the playoffs against Redwood!
