Jan 12 – Boys Basketball Season Opener Update

December was a busy month for Boys Varsity Basketball. They won the San Rafael Classic Tournament, beating the home team, San Rafael, on a Nick Price buzzer beater ”tip in”. Congrats to Ian Archer who was named MVP!

Boys Varsity also won the El Cerrito Tournament. The trip to the finals was hard fought, coming back from 7 point deficit with only 40 seconds to go, they sent it into OT and eventually beating Vanden in semi-finals and crosstown rivals Campolindo in the finals 63-60. Gavin Shipp was MVP and Aidan Mcnamara was all-tournament team.

Boys Varsity has earned two runner-up finishes in the Amador Valley Tourney (lost to Las Lomas) and Chris Huber Classic (lost to Riordan). Entering league play with a 12-4 record and #2 ranking in D2 NCS.

The boys are fired up for their first league game on Friday against Campolindo! Lets go Dons!

Team Seeks Fourth Straight Win Over Campolindo as DAL League Play Starts Tonight

The Acalanes Dons (12-4) hosts the Campolindo Cougars (11-4) Friday night in The Huber Dome (i.e. the Acalanes Gym). Tip-off will be at 7:00pm. The Varsity Dons look to continue their recent dominance of Campolindo on the hardwood. Acalanes has won its last three match-ups with Campolindo, including a win over the Cougars in the Championship Game of the El Cerrito Tournament back on December 22nd, 63-60.

The 2017-18 Acalanes Varsity Basketball Team is comprised of twelve seniors and two juniors. No, that was not a typo. Count’em up, twelve seniors and the coaching staff could not be prouder of these outstanding student athletes: Mitchell Smith (C), Aidan McNamara (C), Carson Etnyre (C), Nick Price, Andrew Che, Gavin Shipp, Robby Rowell, Carter Diaz, Trevor Stripling, John Leamy, Ryan Nall and Ethan Fox. Our two junior student athletes are Ian Archer and Matthew Healy.

Senior leadership has helped the Dons navigate through a challenging pre-season and get to the start of the DAL season with an impressive 12 – 4 record. In fact, MaxPreps has the Dons ranked as the #2 seed in NCS Division 2 Playoff Standings, just behind Las Lomas and ahead of impressive programs like Moreau Catholic, Cardinal Newman and Bishop O’Dowd. The Dons have had to overcome two major injuries this season. Senior, captain and returning All DAL basketball player, Mitchell Smith, tore his ACL in the fall and will miss the entire season. Senior and captain, Carson Etnyre, has been recovering from a stress fracture in his foot since December 14th and may miss the remainder of the season. There has been a “next man up” culture surrounding this team and the boys have embraced it.

The DAL fun begins tonight. This league is absolutely loaded with talented teams this season. There will be ZERO nights off. The Dons will be playing exciting and NCS playoff level basketball games for the next month. However, the tone for the DAL season gets established tonight against Campolindo. We need your support. We want your support. It is time to show your Dons Pride.

Please arrive early, get your seat, watch the second half of the JV Boys game and prepare yourself for the main event. Don’t forget to wear your Acalanes blue and bring your Dons Pride.

As Always…Go Dons
