Feb 21 – Boys Basketball Advances in NCS Playoffs

The Acalanes boys basketball team beat Santa Rosa last night at home, 75-52, in the first round of the NCS Division II championships. Santa Rosa led at 3-2, but Nick Price put up a three pointer to go ahead–and the Dons never looked back.  The lead scorers for Acalanes spread the wealth, with Mitchell Smith and Jesse Marlow each scoring 12; Carson Etnyre scoring 11; and Robby Rowell, Aaron Hill and Ryan Nall all scoring 10.

Santa Rosa was a solid, physical team, but Acalanes played better “team” basketball to come away with the victory. The Dons took a fairly close game and ran away with it using a string of fast break buckets led by Smith and Marlow. Nall, Rowell and Hill controlled the paint.  The Dons ended the game with a crowd pleasing bucket by Will Grace.  It was 23-18 at the end of the 1st; 37-31 at half; 54-40 at the end of the third.

The Dons play away at Moreau Catholic in Hayward on Friday night in the quarterfinal game.  The boys hope Dons fans will come out to Hayward and support Acalanes!  Go Dons!

Feb 14 – Acalanes Boys Varsity Basketball Team Hosts Northgate Tonight at 7:00pm

The Acalanes Dons (15-9), coming off what might be the best week of league basketball play in several seasons, host the Northgate Broncos (6-18). Tip-off is at 7:00pm. Make it a double header and come early and watch the Varsity Girls play at 5:30pm.

The Dons are surging after beating their two Lamorinda rivals last week. On Tuesday night at home, the Dons took down Miramonte, 58-56 and on Friday night in Moraga, the Dons knocked-off Campolindo, 49-44. I am not sure when the last time the Acalanes Boys Varsity Basketball team has pulled off the season sweep of Campolindo. The Acalanes 6th Man travelled up to Campolindo and was loud and energetic throughout the game. When the final buzzer rang, The 6th Man rushed the court to celebrate with the team. It was a great scene. But what made the day even sweeter for the Acalanes Boys Basketball Program last Friday, it was a clean sweep by all Dons teams. The Boy’s Freshman Team, JV Team and Varsity Team all beat Campolindo that day.

At halftime of the Boys Varsity game tonight, there will be a celebration for our State Champions – the Acalanes Girls Varsity Volleyball Team. During this celebration, State Championship rings will be handed out and the State Championship Banner will be unveiled. Please come out and show your love for both our Boys Basketball Team and our prized Girls Volleyball Team.

As Always…Go Dons!!!
