The boys lacrosse team played extremely well against a very good Marin Academy HS team in a thriller of a match. The Dons were up 1-0 after the first period, 3-2 after the third period and were leading 4-3 in the fourth. Marin Academy tied it up 4-4 with 1:44 to play. Marin then scored the winning goal with only 4 seconds left in the match.  Acalanes ends an outstanding season as the NCS Championship Runner-up.

The girls lacrosse team gave Miramonte HS all they could handle, but fell short 6-10.  Their stellar season ends well as NCS Championship Runner-up. The Dons got off to a hot start but then the Mats started chipping away swinging the momentum at half time up 7-5.  It was defense that won it for the Mats with a game of keep-away for the last 12 minutes of the game.  The girls celebrated their successful 18-7 season with post-game antics on the field!  Way to go Lady Dons!

Girls lacrosse photos will be posted on Maxpreps

The baseball team ended the regular season with a victory over Alhambra HS 4-2 as they prepare for the NCS playoffs next week.  The JV team also won 7-3.

The softball team played well in defeat to Las Lomas HS.

CALLING ALL ACALANES SENIOR RECRUITED STUDENT ATHLETES

On Thursday, May 24, at lunchtime, Acalanes Boosters is proud to present a celebration of Acalanes’ talented, hard-working student-athletes who have been recruited to play their sports in college (Division I, II or III) while continuing their educations.

Local media, parents, friends, AHS students, and the community are ALL invited. There will be a group question and answer session, photo and interview opportunities, and other fun.

If your son or daughter has been recruited to play an intercollegiate sport in college next year and he or she has committed to play, please contact Jennifer Larson for more information so we can include them in the celebration. Your student-athlete does not have to play a sport that Acalanes offers, but the sport must be an intercollegiate sport (not club sport) at the school your student-athlete will attend.

Acalanes Girls finished second to a very strong Miramonte team. Miramonte should have beaten us in our dual meet, but they came yesterday and ran and jumped better than any other a team and earned the League Meet Championship. Acalanes remains the Dual Meet Champion.

Injuries have plagued the varsity boys and yesterday was no exception. Several athletes had to pull out of events because doing that last event, even with a slight injury, may have prevented them from next week’s competition.  Yet we still were able to put in great individual performances: Keaziah Smith jumping his way onto the leader board with 22-4; the 4 x 100 running the second fastest time of the season with 43.66, and only the second time this season under 44 sec. Welcome back Jesse Stralla.

The girls varsity, while finishing second to Miramonte, still finished 41 points ahead of the third place finisher.  Muppy Gragg in four events had two firsts, a second and a third. She jumped 18’1/2 in LJ, ran 44.90 in 300 hurdles (.02 off school record) and ran a season best in the 400 57.38; Mila Mathias and Maren Quinella running sub 17 in 100 hurdles finishing 2nd and 3rd;  Charlie Keohane running 61.50 for almost a 2 sec PR in the 400.

Those were just the highlights. We had 23 PR’s or Season PR’s overall. In the boys beside Keaziah (who also PRed in the 100); we had Chris Armanino and Vance Parry in the 100, Johnny Choi in the Long Jump; Kevin Mlynek in the 400; Ethan Frigon in the 800.

In the girls we had PR’s from Anna Weier in the 100 hurdles and discus (where she finished 2nd), Maddy Kalil and Bea Weier in shot; Mari Florine and Scarlette McCullough in the 200 (Scarlette also finished 3rd in PV); Nicole Frigon in the 800; Emily Sverak in the 400 and 300 hurdles.

For this year’s Fund A Need, help Boosters bring strength & conditioning to all twenty-four Acalanes teams for their upcoming 2018-2019 seasons. Those who attended the Booster Bash heard Chris Clark, our certified athletic trainer, talk about the number of injuries our student-athletes incur each year that could be prevented through better flexibility, conditioning and strength. Help Boosters create a safer environment for your kids that will keep them on the practice and playing fields all season.

Our strength & conditioning program will:

* Utilize a certified strength & conditioning coach to work collaboratively with varsity head coaches; certified trainer, Chris Clark; and the athletic administration

* Build customized strength & conditioning programs tailored to each sport’s unique requirements

* Create programs to minimize injuries plus increase strength, speed, and flexibility

* Increase workout resources available to student athletes for a better overall experience

* Put Acalanes on par with other Diablo Athletic League programs who’ve already adopted similar programs
