Acalanes Recruited Athletes Celebration

On Friday, May 19, 2017, Acalanes Boosters is proud to present a celebration of Acalanes’ talented, hard-working student-athletes who have been recruited to play their sports in college (Division I, II or III) while continuing their educations. Acalanes has at least 23 student-athletes who are so accomplished.
 
Local media, parents, friends, Acalanes students, and the community are all invited. There will be a group question & answer session, photo and interview opportunities, and other fun.  Please come to help us celebrate these student-athletes and their accomplishments!
 
Please note: the due to the continuing block schedule, May 19th lunch will take place from 11:15 to 11:50am.

May 18 – Acalanes Baseball Wins Senior Night Game

The Acalanes Don’s Varsity baseball team won its regular season finale with a home victory over Alhambra.

Before the game all 16 Seniors were honored in a senior day ceremony. Senior pitcher Cole Christensen pitched 4 shut out innings, Brian Merken pitched middle relief before Kevin McConnell closed out the final inning and a 1/3. Don’s pitchers only allowed one walk and struck out 8. Offensively, Paul Griessel drove in the first run with a deep sacrifice fly to leftfield as the Don’s led 2-0 after 2. The Don’s scored 2 more in the 3rd and 4th innings to go up 6-0. Harley McKee and Matty Vicencio each had 2 RBI. Will Rembac, Cole Gallagher, Griessel, McKee and Jack Stryker all had hits in today’s win as the Don’s finished the regular season by winning 9 of their last 12 games.

NCS seedings will be announced this weekend.

The Don’s JV lost to Alhambra.

Baseball

plays Alhambra HS at 4:00. Varsity is home and jv is away.

Softball

hosts Las Lomas HS at 4:00.

Baseball and Softball

will have their Senior Day presentations prior to the game.

May 16 – Baseball Keeps Rolling

Baseball Beats Northgate

The Acalanes Varsity baseball team defeated Northgate 11-6 in a DAL game on Tuesday.
In the 4th inning Nick Kresnak hit a bases clearing triple to give the Dons an 8-5 lead. Daniel Kim and Nick Berry each had 2 hits and a RBI. Kresnak had 4 RBI. The Don’s also had 8 stolen bases including 4 by Will Rembac and 2 by Ty Ewing. Starting pitcher Matty Vicencio got the win on the mound and also added a 2 Run Home Run at the plate. Ty Ewing closed out the game recording the final 12 outs to earn the save.
The Don’s finish the regular season at home on Thursday against Alhambra at 4pm. Prior to the game there will be a special celebration for this year’s 18 seniors on the team. The NCS seedings will be announced this Sunday.
The Don’s JV edged Northgate on a walk off RBI double by Tommy Thrasher to break a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the 11th. Thrasher and Nick Bamont each had 3 hits in the Don’s 7-6 win.

May 17 – Wednesday Sports

In Tuesday’s action…

Boys Volleyball

found themselves in a back and forth battle with Redwood HS in the NCS semifinals. It could not be more even with Redwood winning the first game, Acalanes the second, Redwood the third and Acalanes the 4th. The fifth game was tied at 8-8, but Redwood HS prevailed. Everyone played well and Connor McCarthy and Carter Smith delivered inspirational performances.

Baseball

defeated Northgate HS 11-6. The jv team squeaked out a 7-6 victory.

Softball

shutout Mt. Diablo HS 20-0.

Swimming

The Emilys shined at the NCS Finals to qualify for the CIF State Championships. Emily Lo placed 2nd in both the 100 breaststroke and the 100 butterfly and Emily Gebhardt placed 8th in the 50 freestyle.
