JV Dons Volleyball Team Wins Dougherty Valley Tournament

The Acalanes Girls JV Volleyball Team took first place in the 16-team Dougherty Valley Tournament on Saturday. It was the team’s second championship in as many weeks.

The day included morning victories over Liberty, Alameda, and Mission San Jose High Schools. The afternoon saw the Dons defeat host Dougherty Valley and California High.

The championship match was a thriller against the Mustangs of Monte Vista. The Dons lost the first game 25-23, the only game they have lost over the past thirteen matches. But Acalanes bounced back with a terrific performance and won the second game 25-20.

The deciding match was tense throughout. Several long points with some amazing saves from both teams. With the Dons down to their last point at 13-14, Rachel Lom took a great set from Lia White and killed it to tie the score at 14-14. It was a huge point. The Dons then took the last two points and won 16-14. The team celebrated on the floor as did the parents on the sideline! It was a special day with every player on the team playing a key role. Coach Shannon Lee did a terrific job of playing everyone while also getting them needed rest. The Dons are now 18-3 on the season and host rival Campo this Thursday at 5 pm.
