Acalanes Track and Field going to State!

Track and Field

This past weekend the track team competed in the North Coast Section Meet of Championships at UCB. Three athletes qualified for state by finishing in the top three of their event, two events we finished fourth just missing the state meet qualification mark. Eight out of nine athletes qualified for finals from trials

The athletes, Nick Comly, Dan Cardiff, Sid Vitale, Alex Hennies, Michael Wang, Andrew Bertrics, Matt Thomas, Windy Margerum, and Imani Boggan represented Acalanes well. The boys finished 4th in the meet, placing behind Castro Valley, Amador, De La Salle, the only small school in the top four.

Matt Thomas won both the shot and discus. He threw 57-3 (4th best all time Acalanes that had been standing since 1984) in shot and 171-5 (3rd all time, standing since 1979) in the discus.

Michael Wang 3rd 4:17.47 in the 1600, already has the second best time in Acalanes History (4:14.47)

Freshman Imani Boggan finished third in the 400 with a 58.17 and has run 58.10 which places her 2nd all time.

The above three athletes qualified for state in four events.

The boys 4 x 400 finished 4th , ran a season best 3:18.49, missed qualifying for the state meet by .18, but did break the school record that has stood since 1988. (Nick Comly, Dan Cardiff, Sid Vitale, Alex Hennies)

Alex Hennies finished 4th in the 400, running 49.11, which puts him second on the all-time list that has stood since 1956.

Freshman Windy Margerum made finials in both her events running 15.69 in 100 hurdles and jumping 16-11 ¾ in the long jump, a season best. Windy had earlier in the year broke the school record in the 100 hurdles running 15.41, that had been standing since 1993.

Our 4 x100 team that qualified for this meet, (Taiki Chiba, Alex Hennies, Nick Comly and Dan Cardiff) which we scratched, ran 43.15 3rd all-time beating a mark that has stood since 1988.

This year’s team placed 19 times or distances in the Top Ten Varsity Marks and 22 in Frosh/Soph.

Congratulations to our whole Track and Field Team – we will as a team be rooting on Matt, Michael and Imani.  Go Acalanes!!!
