Dec 12 – Acalanes rolls over Miramonte
Acalanes’ defense have not been kind to the opposition so far this season and continued their stingy ways on a cold evening in Orinda. After a relatively even first half, there’s no way Miramonte could have foreseen what was about to hit them early and often in the second half. Though, had Miramonte took note of a 6th minute senior Ben Croze strike that struck the post before bouncing to safety, they might have prevented the second half avalanche of goals either scored or created by Croze.
On 18 minutes, Croze picked up the ball at the halfway line and took off down the left wing beating Miramonte’s right fullback by chipping the ball over him and running around him, a poor first touch then almost gave the ball to Miramonte’s goalie but Croze managed to gain control before sending an accurate 20 yard shot that settled into the net at far post for Acalanes first goal. Miramonte answered back in the 26th minute when striker, Kyle Visher, finished well from close range from a wide left cross. Halftime, 1-1.
Just 3 minutes into the second half, a corner from Croze, was met by senior Dan Glascock, who guided the ball high into the net. Just 5 minutes later a right wing cross by Croze was met by surging defender, senior Graham Lindgren, who used his height to meet the ball at the far post for a headed tap in. A few minutes later another Croze right wing cross was met by senior Lenny Adkerson, who used his favorite left foot to pick out a spot deep into the back of the net. On 57 minutes Croze, unassisted, scored his second for Acalanes 5th goal on the night.
Excellent second half team performance by Acalanes culminating in game, set and Ben Croze!
