JV Football: Dons Sink the Buccaneers, 52-0

Balboa won the toss and elected to differ to get the ball first after halftime. After their kicker put the ball in the end zone for a touchback. The Acalanes offense took the ball on the 20 yard line.

Acalanes Starting QB this week was left hander, Sully Bailey – Who ran a quick pitch to Speedster Paul Kuhner towards the right side of the offense. Paul followed his blockers perfectly and then sprint down the far sideline for a 40 yard gain. Balboa had a use a time out early to get the correct defense on the field… The second play from scrimmage was a beautifully timed pass to Paul Kuhner in the left flats. Paul made a couple of nice moves and then turned on the jets and sprinted 40 yards into the End Zone for a Touchdown! 2 plays 80 yards… 7 – 0 JV Dons with about 1 min 30 seconds off the clock.

The Buccaneers took over on about their 20 yard line after our Kickoff – Their first play from scrimmage ended poorly when the snap from center bounced between their quarterbacks legs, took a weird bounce and then was inadvertently kicked into their End Zone where Ace Reeder fell on it for another JV Dons touchdown! Less than 2 minutes into the game and it was 14 – 0 JV Don’s – It was obvious from that point that the visiting tea was out matched in just about every category – it was 28 – 0 at the end of the FIRST quarter – and 42- 0 at halftime.

From an offensive perspective – Sully Bailey finished the day 2 for 2 passing, with 2 touchdowns – Paul Kuhner lead in the receiving and rushing categories, with 54 yards receiving and 26 yards rushing – Henry Souza took a pitch from the QB and ran around the outside edge for a 9 yard touchdown run. Starting tailback Jack Miller then punched one into the end zone for touchdown – One of the best parts of being on the right side of a lopsided game is that it gives your second and third team players a chance to get some game time! Most of the starters were cheering from the sidelines by halftime – and it was exciting to see kids make plays who, because of the depth of this team, normally don’t get much action. Collin Malmquist lowered his shoulder on a tough run up the middle for 11 yards. The JV Don’s had 5 touchdowns total on the day, but could have had many more, but decided to not score.

On the defensive side of the ball the JV Don’s were even more dominating! They only allowed the Buccaneers 25 total yards the entire game – 18 different players made tackles! Aidan Haslem leading the pack with 2 solo tackles and 5 assists – Jack Giorgianni and Gavin Bender each had great games defensively with several solo tackles and tackles for loss between them – Colachicho had interception with a 25 yard return, and Jones also had a pick with a 16 yard return .

It was a great game for the JV Dons! They came out and took care of business with 52 for the Dons and 0 for the Buccaneers.

The JV Dons are back in action on Friday night this week, they will be visiting Marina High School (2200 Noche Buena Street, Seaside) at 430pm.
