Play started today for the Lady Dons, hosting the AGWP Invitational. 16 teams are vying for the championship with games split between Campolindo HS and Acalanes. Our Lady Dons started today with a game against Rio Americano HS (Sacramento), and were thrilled to play at home, at lunch, with the support of the student body in the stands! Thanks for coming out to support your team Acalanes! The Lady Dons put on a show for the crowd, routing Rio Americano 11-0! “Hat Tricks” were recorded by TWO of our Lady Dons, Captain Heidi Heffelfinger (Sr) and Maize O’Hare (Jr). Rounding out the scoring were Sara Archer (Jr) (2), and Daylor Williams (Jr), Sarah Potter (Jr), and Olivia Williams (So) (1). We also need to recognize the amazing play of our defense, especially of our starting goalie, Audrey Cox (Jr), with 8 saves on route to the shutout.
The Lady Dons second game was a thriller! The girls hosted the Amador Valley Dons (an all Dons matchup!). Acalanes looked to dominate early in the game putting up 6 goals to Amador’s 3 goals in the first half. Amador regrouped at the half, coming back to score 4 goals to Acalanes’ 2 goals to make it a 8-7 game going into the 4th. Defense was tight during the 4th quarter with each team scoring only one goal. Amador, down 9-8, got the ball back and called a time-out with 25 seconds left, allowing them to set up their offense at the AGWP goal with a chance at the last shot. Our Lady Dons held the line and took the game with a final score of 9-8. Highlights of the game were fantastic saves by starting goalie, Audrey Cox (Jr), with 12 saves against a really aggressive Amador Valley Offense. Offensive stars of the game were team Captain Heidi Heffelfinger (Sr) (6), and Sarah Potter (Jr), Wendy Heffelfinger (So), and Olivia Williams (So) (1).
Action continues tomorrow! The girls take on Davis (2-0), at 11:30 am. Both teams looked great tonight, it should be a really exciting game. Come out to support the Lady Dons!
