Varsity Baseball Is Back After a Long Hiatus

Baseball isn’t a timed game, but it is a game all about timing.  Unfortunately, on Monday the Dons were on the wrong side of Father Time.  Despite having many more base runners, the Dons couldn’t come up with timely hits, and fell 7-4 to a strong San Ramon Valley team.

The Dons left six runners on base in the first 3 innings and fell behind 4-0 to San Ramon.  Sophomore Toby Schwing lead off the 4th inning off with a single to start a rally, Junior Miles Bergman added a line drive single, and a couple of quality at bats by senior Ben Burleigh and Davis Diaz resulted in the Dons putting up 4 runs to tie the game at 4-4.   Unfortunately, San Ramon didn’t waste their chances in the bottom of the fourth and took the lead for good.  Junior Connor McPhail came in to pitch 2 final hitless innings, but unfortunately the Don bats did not produce the timely hits they needed.

Despite the loss in their season opener, the Dons look like a strong young baseball team once again this season.  After losing several starters to graduation and with several starters missing as they finish up with their football season, the Dons still managed to hang tight with a storied San Ramon Valley baseball program.  The season just kicked off, but in time, nothing will slow down this Dons team.
