Frosh DON-inate Again, 38 to 8

The Freshman Dons Football program came out HOT on Saturday afternoon and never looked back. It is very impressive how quickly this team moves the ball! It is a good sign when the opposing team has to call a timeout before the 3rd play of the game, because their defense crew was not yet out of the huddle when the Don’s Offense was ready to snap the ball……that is DON-ination!

Offensive Coach Buddy Rowell has created a well oiled machine early in the season. His is made a little easier by the number of weapons he has to use in his game plan. The Freshmen Don’s scored 5 times, used 3 different quarterbacks, had 8 different players catch at least 1 pass, 7 different players carried the ball at least once, as a team they combined for 281 all purpose yards, and only had the ball for 15:09 vs. 24:51 for the visiting team! Very impressive offensive showing…that is DON-ination!

The Dons took their first possession down the field with relative ease… Quarterback, Jake Boselli hit a wide open Paul Kuhner for a 25 yard touchdown. Jake completed 8 or 9 pass attempts for 94 yards and 3 touchdowns!- On the very next possession he connected with Paul Kuhner, again, on a 24 yard touchdown pass. Kuhner ended up catching 4 passes for 67 yards on the day. Sully Bailey then came in at quarterback for the next possession, and immediately drove down the field, mixing up the run and passing game. Bailey kept the ball on an option left play, and the scampered 24 yards down the home sideline for his first touchdown of the game. Sully then connected with Henry Souza, the next time the Don’s had the ball, for a 13 yard touchdown pass! Sully completed 4 of 6 pass attempts for 72 yards. Souza had 2 catches for 45 yards on the day. Quarterback Calvin Kortaba got into the action on Saturday as well, he completed 2 of 6 pass attempts and showed off his scrambling ability and rushed for 6 yards. Jack Miller was in the mix as tailback and rushed for 23 yards and caught a two point conversion……that is DON-ination!

On the defensive side of the ball the Dons were just as DONinate! 20 different players recorded a tackle! 6 of them for a loss of yards! The only advantage Alhambra had during the game was time of possession. The Defense held the visitors to only 114 yards of offense. Everett Glass had a spectacular defensive game with 5 solo tackles, 2 assists, one of which was for a loss of yards… and he intercepted 2 passes! Christian Cervenka, Jack Giorgianni and Jack Miller all had multiple tackles, and Chase Caicedo and Gavin Bender each recorded a sack. Bender also picked off an Alhambra pass and ran it back for a touchdown that was called back on a questionable penalty. If this team keep tackling the way they are being taught and staying as disciplined as they are, I am sure they will continue to see many many good results!

The Freshman Dons take on cross town rival Campolindo at home this Saturday at 1am. No worries… We will DONinate!
